WHY DOES FENG SHUI WORK?

June 17, 2008 · No Comments

Somewhere along the way to modernization and advancing technologies we lost track of one important thing. We are human animals, full of basic needs and instincts requiring regular doses of certain things such as light, color, fresh air, good food, clean air, and healthy environments. Whether or not the mind is consciously aware of what is present in the environment, the body is constantly receiving and responding to the steady flow of information emanating from the location. The further we are from a natural environment symbolically and actually, the more challenging and stressful it becomes to work and live. Environments create consciousness and consciousness creates behaviors. We are not separate from our environment whether we are inside or outside of buildings. Whether we are tense and stressed at our desks or in our kitchens our work and our lives will reflect that condition. And one thing is for certain these days…..everybody is tense!

When we begin to take conscious control over the unseen elements in our environments, subtle adjustments begin to occur in our psyche at the same time.

Try it. You’ll like it.

The Pluto Line…..oh dear

April 4, 2008 · 2 Comments

And, it runs right thru Southern California on my astro-cartography map. AstroCartography is an astrological technique by which we re-draw the ‘map of the heavens’ and place it on Planet Earth. Mathematically, we are transforming time into space…..or rather, integrating them…..together.

I became fascinated by this technique from Jim Lewis way back in the ’80’s. I took a weekend workshop where Jim taught the attending astrologers how to work with his maps and It blew me away! I’ve been playing around with this technique ever since and I’ve come to respect it as much as the more traditional ways to use astrology. When combined with feng shui, astro-cartography becomes a powerful methodology for positive action. Go here to read my previous post on this.

I don’t have any major lines running thru my current hometown location. I have two paran lines that I cross over if I drive a couple hours south. Other than that, not much going on here for me in NJ.

However, as you can see by looking at this map the line representing Pluto goes right thru Long Beach, California where I am going to be spending a month, soon. Oh dear! For this Scorpio Sun, it’s a mixed blessing for sure. No doubt it’ll be a life-changing (transformational) trip.

plutoincal.gif

The horizontal (paran) line that crosses it near Long Beach represents Mercury/Jupiter. Aaaaah. That feels better…..especially since I will be spending a good deal of time writing while I’m out there. For one who earns her living teaching, this location could be quite a ‘page-turner’! :)

Transiting Pluto is moving thru my 6th house these days and coming into orb of my Moon/Uranus opp. Venus aspect. It’s the tightest aspect in my chart and hasn’t had a major aspect from Pluto in a long time. Something is getting ready to happen for sure.

So, what to do?

Following my own advice the first thing is to notice….thoughts, feelings, attitudes, expectations, prejudices, all the ‘knee-jerk’, unconscious responses to this information. I confess to a little fear, but also anticipation and excitement too.

For now, I think the task is simply to get comfortable with not-knowing anything (for certain) and stay open to possibilities.

Hmmm. Sounds like a plan.

Feng Shui Today

March 7, 2008 · No Comments

The WayIt’s been a while since I’ve written any feng shui posts. It’s a
frequent topic for conversation in a couple of my hatha yoga classes.
Go figure.

Yoga. Feng Shui. Well, yes….it does make sense.

Feng Shui is all about looking outside of us to see the things that
usually go un-noticed. Un-noticed, not because they’re hard to see
(which is possible), but un-noticed because we have probably become
habituated or quite accustomed to the sight of what we’re looking at.

For instance, my garage roof is looking quite………………………….untidy.

It’s been that way ever since I’ve moved into the house. It doesn’t
leak or create any problems…..it just looks a little messy. It has an
old wooden roof, moss growing all over it, one shake at the top/center
is missing and, the old white aluminum door is partially green from
lack of sunlight. Last year I spent the entire spring/summer season
cleaning out the inside which is now quite orderly, for me. My garage
sits in the south east corner of my property, sometimes known as the
“resource” gua. In terms of local space feng shui (astrology) the garage is on the line that represents the North Node. Hmm. That’s a tricky one to delineate.

Confucious…….Talented feng shui consultants are able to look at things like my garage and get
a felt sense of where this untidiness or disorder is showing up in my
life. It may or may not have a direct effect on those areas of my life
symbolized by the placement of the garage. It’s possible that a
different ‘polarity’ is being affected. It helps to have a clear mind
when considering (con-sider: with the stars) all of the possibilities.
HOW WE CHOOSE TO THINK about something we see affects the outcome. Yes?
Of course.

Yoga is all about what is going on inside. What is present
emotionally/mentally (especially on the unconscious level) when I look
at my garage? Am I disturbed?

I kinda like it, actually. …….adds a bit of a rustic feeling to
the plastic veneer of typical suburbia. Cleaning it out was a good
thing, it created clear space for other things to happen…………and
A LOT HAPPENED during that time of clean out. Perhaps I’ll tell the
story someday soon.

For now, I think I’ll just go and pick up all the sticks and
branches that have fallen around the yard over the past few windy days.
It’s good to keep the clutter to a minimum. There’s a New Moon today at
18 degrees of Pisces. The sabian symbol is, “In a gigantic tent,
villagers witness a spectacular performance”

Sun’s out!

Bye.

…and then the dead squirrel fell out of the sky

January 24, 2008 · 2 Comments

and landed right, smack, dab in the middle of the ‘wealth’ corner in my yard.

The dog that I was doggy-sitting for, saw it happen and went a little crazy….barking! jumping! very excited! She hadn’t done anything like this before, so it definitely caught my attention.

Feng Shui teaches us how to look at our environment as a ’story unfolding’ . In ancient times when a change appeared in the local landscape the feng shui master would be called in to interpret this *change* in the environment. Change precipitates change. It’s a universal truth.

Chinese New Year Coming Soon. It’s been nearly a year since I began this blog. Hmmm. Where to go from here?

Feng Shui –tip of the day

September 10, 2007 · 1 Comment

Sept. 11, 2007 is a New Moon Solar Eclipse in the Chinese Year of The Fire Boar.

There’s some pretty auspicious chi flowing and that’s always a good time to practice the ‘way’ of feng shui.

Lao Tzu

TO DO: Ask yourself: What area in my life needs attention? Go to that room/gua/corner. Clean out. Wipe down . Create clear space in your favorite gua or direction….. set an intention, and then move nine things holding your intention in your mind. Light a candle sometime around 8:44am EST. (the exact time of the eclipse in EST)

Breathe. Relax. Feel. Watch. Allow.

Everything is exactly perfect. It’s our “wanting things to be different” that creates the suffering. So explained, the Buddah.

Twenty Degrees of Leo

August 9, 2007 · No Comments

Tonite I am facilitating another Yoga Nidra experience. The timing seems to be very auspicious. On Sunday, Aug 12 there will be a New Moon at 20 degrees of Leo. That degree point has been very, very, hot (!) over the past few years…..and it’s a powerful point…… I’m glad to have this opportunity to de-compress before another lunar cycle begins.

Twenty degrees of Leo, according to Dane Rudyhar (An Astrological Mandala) refers to ” a return to the glorification of natural energies.”

Hmmmm. There’s a lot of different ways that might manifest. If you are a yoga teacher this would be an opportune time to practice ‘holding’. If you practice feng shui, you might want to look around your house and identify what has NOT changed in a long time. Start to change it.

Regardless,

Let’s envision,

Feng Shui in the Garden

July 1, 2007 · No Comments

I find that the garden is an amazing place to hone your feng shui skills. First notice which gua(s), or section(s) of your property the garden is located in.

(My garden covers both the Self and the Roots area of my property.)

Notice!

What’s there now? Is it cluttered or clear?

The spirituality of feng shui, speaks subtly.

Feng Shui - Tip of the Day

June 26, 2007 · No Comments

electricity

It’s time to become more consciously aware of the quantity of electro-magnetic energy that you live with inside your home. Unfortunately our insatiable desire for convenience has overtaken our common sense. Take a look at how many electrical appliances are in your bedroom for starters. Lights, radios, tv’s, computers…….what else is in there? Did you know that all of these items emit electromagnetic energy even if they are turned off? Did you know that electro-magnetic energy weakens your immune system? Do you realize that when you are sleeping (or tossing around from insomnia) your body is more vulnerable to electro-magnetic energy? Do you think there might be a connection between your insomnia and your health to the amount of electro-magnetic energy in your bedroom? I certainly do.

Wanna sleep better? Wanna strengthen your immune system?

Create a bedroom space that’s free of electrical appliances……….especially TV’s!

Feng Shui Tip of the Day

May 25, 2007 · No Comments

Confucious…….

Clean out dead things. Flowers, dead bugs, dried out leaves, etc. Let go of what no longer works.

HOWEVER,

only you can decide between what is “dead” and what is simply “waiting to be reborn”
